Purpose and Essential Duties

A software engineer, senior is a technical leader in the execution of work for the technical development, implementation, and operation of Bernhard’s technology-based products, many of which will directly support Bernhard’s Energy as a Service (EaaS) and Integrated Solutions business. This person will work on an agile product development team as an individual contributor and will collaborate with internal and external (consultant) team members. This person will be expected to independently execute software development tasks in accordance to the agile development process and software development best practices. They will also act as a technical leader on the development team and occasionally contribute to standards and policies for software development.

This specific job posting is in search of a person with a focus on web front end development specifically in modern web frameworks. This person is expected to be able to independently maintain and develop new features in Angular and React applications and could help define requirements, perform quality control, and guide development tasks of junior engineers working in the development of web apps.

This senior software engineer position will be part of Bernhard’s Software Development team, and will develop new and innovative systems technologies for collecting, computing, and storing energy and telemetry data, within the Bernhard Connect platform. This team will leverage modern IoT, data science and machine learning, cloud, and front end user interface technology to produce new innovations and drive industry-wide change within the energy efficiency and optimization industry.

This position is full time, reports to the Software Engineering Manager, and is considered Exempt for purposes of the FLSA.

Essential Duties

Be an individual contributor on the software development team.
Work on an agile development team in collaboration with a scrum master, a product owner, and other development team members who may be internal or external to Bernhard.
Collaborate with technical and non-technical team members, who may be employed by Bernhard or external consultants.
Execute software development tasks
Complete tasks independently or in a self-directed manner.
Be a technical leader on the software development team.
Provide guidance and input to the work of junior and mid-level developers.
Perform code review and pull request approvals.
Occasionally provide formal training to junior and mid-level developers on software development best practices.
Occasionally contribute to standards and policies.
Comply with policies and procedures for development including standards for testing, quality control, coding, documentation, etc.
Contribute to ongoing maintenance and operation of Bernhard’s technology products.
Heavily engage with Bernhard’s internal and external customers.
Participate in execution of Bernhard’s non-software engineering projects, to gain insight into the use and value of our software products.

Travel Requirements

This position may require up to 10% travel.

Minimum Qualifications

BS in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience (MS preferred)
7+ years of experience working on a software development team, with demonstrated progressive responsibility.
A willingness to engage and learn basics of the different fields of Bernhard’s EaaS business as needed for development.
Strong leadership, communication, technical, and analytical skills.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Strong desire to continually grow and develop professionally.
Proficiency with multiple technologies and languages, including JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks such as Angular and React.
Strong experience with agile software development projects.
Proficiency with multiple technologies and languages.
Proficiency with agile software development processes.
Proficiency with source code management systems such as Git.
Proficiency with software quality control including unit testing.
Experience in deploying to critical production environments.
Experience setting up and deploying code using CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with agile management tools such as Azure DevOps.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing with Microsoft Azure.
Experience developing user interfaces for IoT and data driven applications.
Experience with large greenfield software projects.
Experience with In-memory data structure stores.
Experience developing back end APIs in C#.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

Shall require long periods of sitting or standing at a desk in front of a computer in the office environment.

The base salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000 per year however base salary may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
