Our work has supported data-driven policy improvements in health care, education, social insurance, civic participation, workforce development, and criminal justice.

In the early days of COVID-19, we partnered with Rhode Island to build a cloud-based Pandemic Unemployment Assistance system in just 10 days, making Rhode Island the first state in the nation to pay CARES act benefits to workers and families in need, and helping over 70,000 RI workers receive their unemployment benefits.

We are now expanding across the country — including Colorado, Hawai’i, New Jersey, and Washington — to use administrative data, ML/AI, and cloud technology solutions to help state and federal government connect millions Americans with in-demand careers and streamlined benefits.

The Role:

As a member of the Technology Team, you will work with the Senior Director of Technology to develop and deploy innovative, science-powered products in partnership with government stakeholders and mission-aligned organizations.

We believe that all our developers should be comfortable working across the full stack. However, we understand that everyone has their own passion and niche and believe you should be able to contribute as such.

The Ideal Candidate:

Strong software engineering skills as demonstrated by developing and launching product features and advancing within a company’s engineering ladder.
Leadership/ownership in product design and maintenance is a plus.
Expertise with React (inc. Redux), CSS, HTML, responsive design, GitHub, user testing, and APIs.
Expert ability to convert UI/UX wireframes to functional products with minimal guidance.
Ability to integrate front-end and back-end aspects of web applications.
Familiarity with Python build systems and CI/CD, feature engineering, and relational databases.
Familiarity with cloud technologies (specifically AWS).
A strong desire and commitment to building products that use data and science to solve complex social problems at speed and at scale.
Ability to work with minimal supervision as demonstrated by being a self-started, exceptionally organized and able to communicate project progress via online project and task management software (RIPL currently uses JIRA).
Experience working in a cross-functional team and communicating strategy and project goals to non-technical stakeholders.
Previous experience with government policy makers or academic scientists is a plus.
BA/BS in a relevant field is preferred.
