Senior Software Engineer (Backend / Platform)
Location: Fully Remote (U.S. only)
Compensation: $160,000 - $185,000 base + bonus

Role Overview
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend expertise to help design and build scalable platform services.
This is a hands-on role focused on distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native development. You'll work closely with a remote engineering team to modernize legacy systems, build new services, and integrate external platforms.
You'll also contribute to system design, mentor engineers, and help drive engineering best practices across the team.
What You'll Do
- Design and build scalable APIs and microservices across core platform domains
- Lead modernization efforts from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures
- Build event-driven systems for real-time processing and system communication
- Integrate third-party SaaS platforms and external systems
- Architect distributed systems for scalability, reliability, and performance
- Define API contracts using REST and/or GraphQL
- Work with relational and NoSQL data stores
- Deploy and manage services in AWS using containerized infrastructure
- Improve system observability, monitoring, and performance
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product and technical direction
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong backend experience with Java (Spring Boot preferred) or similar
- Deep understanding of microservices and distributed systems
- Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar)
- Strong experience building scalable, high-performance systems
- Hands-on experience with AWS (GCP or Azure also considered)
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong database experience (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or NoSQL systems)
- Solid understanding of API design, authentication, and system design
- Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, etc.)
- Strong communication skills in a remote environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with large-scale or enterprise platforms
- Background in high-volume or transaction-heavy systems
- Experience with legacy system modernization
- Exposure to React or Vue
- Experience with billing, inventory, or contract-based systems
