Position Overview:
CEI is seeking a Senior Front-End Developer to support an application development initiative for a Banking and Financial Services client. The position is part of a planned four-person front-end development team consisting of two senior and two mid-level developers. The team will focus on designing, developing, and delivering modern enterprise web applications, with senior team members providing technical leadership, establishing development standards, and mentoring other developers. The role will work alongside business stakeholders, product owners, UX/UI designers, architects, back-end engineers, DevOps resources, and other members of the application development organization. This is a hands-on development position responsible for taking application features and technical initiatives through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. The developer will translate business requirements into secure, responsive, scalable user experiences; build reusable application components; integrate front-end applications with enterprise services; participate in architecture and design decisions; review code; troubleshoot production issues; and contribute to application performance, reliability, accessibility, security, and maintainability.
Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field required
- 7+ years of professional front-end/web development experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on React experience and 3+ years of hands-on Next.js experience.
- Expert-level proficiency with JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of modern React architecture, component design, hooks, state management, and performance optimization.
- Deep understanding of modern web application architecture and front-end engineering principles.
- Strong experience with HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, and cross-browser development.
- Strong experience integrating applications with REST APIs and/or GraphQL.
- Experience designing reusable component libraries and/or enterprise design systems.
- Strong experience with Git, branching strategies, pull requests, and code review processes.
- Experience implementing automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Strong understanding of web application security, authentication, authorization, and Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentor other developers.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Law firm or legal technology application experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience within a law firm, legal technology organization, corporate legal department, or professional services environment.
- Experience working directly with attorneys, paralegals, legal ops teams, professional staff, or law-firm IT teams.
- Experience developing or supporting matter and case management, document management, legal research, litigation/eDiscovery, client portal, legal billing/timekeeping, conflicts management, records management, legal workflow/automation, knowledge management, attorney dashboard/productivity, or secure document collaboration applications.
- Understanding of confidentiality, security, privileged information, data integrity, auditability, and highly available enterprise applications.
- Experience with Node.js, Azure and/or AWS, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, OAuth, OpenID Connect, CI/CD, and Docker.
- Experience with Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress, Storybook, Material UI, and Tailwind CSS.
- Experience with WCAG/ADA accessibility standards, application performance optimization, design systems, micro-frontends, or large-scale front-end architecture.
Day to Day/Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and delivery of complex front-end applications using React and Next.js.
- Translate business requirements into intuitive, secure, and scalable user experiences while collaborating with product owners, UX/UI designers, architects, back-end engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Develop scalable, reusable, maintainable, and high-performance UI components and application architectures.
- Make architectural decisions involving state management, component architecture, routing, rendering strategies, caching, performance, and scalability.
- Leverage Next.js capabilities including server-side rendering, static generation, server components, routing, middleware, and API integration where appropriate.
- Build applications involving complex workflows, forms, search, document management, dashboards, and data-intensive interfaces.
- Design and implement integrations with enterprise REST APIs and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Establish front-end development standards, reusable patterns, and best practices across the development team.
- Establish and maintain front-end testing strategies using appropriate unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks.
- Conduct code reviews focused on quality, security, performance, and maintainability, while providing technical guidance to other developers.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers and contribute to the growth of the front-end engineering practice.
- Identify technical risks and resolve application performance, usability, reliability, and scalability issues.
- Ensure applications meet enterprise standards for security, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Partner with DevOps and engineering teams on CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Evaluate new front-end technologies and provide recommendations regarding their adoption.
- Participate in technical design reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, and Agile development activities.
- Communicate technical concepts and architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Take ownership of deliverables from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support with limited direction.
