Position Overview
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to partner closely with our Product team in building polished, high-performance web applications for complex scientific workflows.
The ideal candidate will bring deep frontend expertise in React and TypeScript, combined with strong backend capabilities using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL. This role is frontend-led but requires the ability to own features end-to-end, from user experience and state management through API design and data modeling.
You will build sophisticated, data-intensive interfaces where thoughtful interaction design, performance, and state management are critical. The ideal candidate is also AI-native, leveraging modern LLMs and agentic development tools to accelerate prototyping and production delivery while maintaining strong engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Frontend-Led Full-Stack Development
- Architect and develop complex, high-performance applications using React and TypeScript.
- Build sophisticated, stateful user interfaces for scientific and data-intensive workflows.
- Own backend integration points, including API design, data modeling, and database interactions.
- Develop scalable and maintainable component architectures and state management patterns.
User Experience & Interface Design
- Translate complex scientific and technical requirements into intuitive, efficient user experiences.
- Build responsive, visually polished, and accessible interfaces.
- Establish frontend best practices around component composition, state management, styling, and performance.
- Ensure applications remain intuitive and performant as functionality and data complexity increase.
Backend & Data Engineering
- Design and integrate APIs using Python/FastAPI.
- Develop and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and data access patterns.
- Translate scientific and biotechnology requirements into structured and scalable data models.
- Support high-volume data ingestion and complex metadata workflows.
AI-Accelerated Development
- Leverage modern language models and agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar technologies to accelerate development.
- Use AI-assisted workflows to rapidly prototype, iterate, and deliver production-ready features.
- Balance development velocity with code quality, reliability, security, maintainability, and performance.
- Apply strong engineering judgment when evaluating AI-generated code and architectural approaches.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner closely with scientists, engineers, product managers, and AI researchers.
- Translate user and scientific requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Communicate technical decisions, project status, and potential risks clearly.
- Maintain a strong focus on end-user needs and business impact.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Promote full-stack engineering best practices across the organization.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help establish scalable technical foundations.
Ideal Candidates
- Deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of modern frontend architecture, including component composition, state management, and performance optimization.
- Proven ability to build visually polished, high-performance React applications.
- Strong CSS and styling architecture experience, including technologies such as CSS Modules, Tailwind CSS, or comparable frameworks.
- Strong data modeling capabilities, particularly for scientific or biotechnology applications.
- Experience designing APIs, defining schemas, and optimizing PostgreSQL queries.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
- Working knowledge of Python, including frameworks and libraries such as FastAPI and Pydantic.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL in production environments.
- Strong understanding of software testing, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience building complex React applications with sophisticated state management.
- Demonstrated experience developing applications beyond basic CRUD interfaces.
- Fluency in TypeScript.
- Experience with the TanStack ecosystem is a plus.
- Experience developing applications that render, visualize, or annotate imagery is highly valued.
- Experience working with APIs and modern data layers.
- Experience with Python/FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
- Experience in high-throughput laboratory automation or robotics is highly valued.
